Mike Millett lives in a small rural community with his wife Olivia and son Otis, in a container house they built together, surrounded by the uncluttered space and uncompromising light this lifestyle provides.
Born and raised in Hawke's Bay, Mike spent three years in Samoa as a young man, which gave him a sense of the wider Pacific - and New Zealand's place within it.
His skills as a maker have been honed through a formal jewellery apprenticeship and the practical disciplines of rural working life: metalwork, carpentary and a conscientious approach to the task at hand.
This translates into pieces of exceptional workmanship, often exhibiting a deceptive simplicity which belies the patient hours spent perfecting the design - from unique fashion jewellery to diamond-encrusted dress rings.
